The initial part of this study contains an analyzes of the specifics of Russian national music and the historical process of its formation. Special attention is given to the politics of expansion of Alexander II and to the increase of interethnic contacts caused by these political tendencies. The second part of this study analyzes the main milestones of the adaption of oriental elements in the work of Russian classical music composers. Special attention is given to the contribution of Alexander Alexandrovich Aljabjev, Michail Iwanowitsch Glinka, Vladimir Vasilievich Stasov and to the work of The New Russian School. At the end of this study it is discussed, into what extent can the implementation of non-Russian music elements into Russian national classical music be considered for an expression of orientalism.
