The paper deals with determinants of motivation to participiate in choral singing. Also the paper brings information how singers consider and evaluate their acitivity. We realized short research focused on phenomenon of motivation of choral singing and its sense. Research was realized in two chorals in town of Zvolen (Slovak republic): Zvolenský spevácky zbor (Choir of Zvolen) and choir Dominicus by church and monastery of st. Dominik.

The contribution deals with evolution of own choir from youth choir into an adult choir. It is based on 15 years experience with founding and conducting the choir. The author of the study tries to formulate choirmaster competences needed for conducting a choir. He shows the necessity of changing repertoir and the way of choir work to current social situation and abilities of its members. The level of the choir (which is mathematicaly "ungraspable") is described with hyperbole to Einstein Special Theory of Relativity.

Miloslav Kabeláč belongs to the most important Czech composers of 20th century thanks to his original composition technique and to human message of his works. The center of his output is in symphonic and chamber music, but he wrote also choirs and cantatas. This paper describes Kabeláč's life, his social position in two totalits; nevertheless the most important part of the text deals with survey of Kabeláč's choral and cantata pieces including characteristics of his personal style. Its originality is in modality, in tendency to polyphony, in technique of interval expanding and in the last works also in combination of different tempos in the same time.

Štiavničan choir, male choir, which operates in Banská Štiavnica more than 41 years. In its history it was replaced by four Choirmasters and more than eighty singers. Its origins, its orientation and appearance is considered mining choir. In addition to mining repertoire consists of songs Stiavnicke student songs, religious songs, folk and national songs and classical choral music. The focus of the speeches church events are organized around the town Banská Štiavnica, cultural events, Vol. Mass burials. In 2013 the choir was placed in a silver band on competitive exhibition of church songs in Kremnici.

Choir singing has got a specific position within the Slovak music culture, inter alia also thanks to the activity of numerous non-professional choirs. One of them is also the more than one hundred years old church choir "Andrej" in the parish church of St. Andrew in Ružomberok. Although the choir has experienced its "crises" and periods of instability, the continuousness of this choir throughout long decades can be seen in the fact that it has always been the parish church choir and its activity has never been interrupted or suspended for more than two years. The town of Opava has been the centre of Silesia and as such it has also become the centre of children, youth, adult and church choir. The oldest of them has been the Křížkovský Choir, the activity of which was initiated in 1887. Other choirs have been the Silesian Teachers Male Choral Society (since 1906) and Silesian Teachers Female Choral Society (since 1958). The youngest of the adult choirs has been the Chamber Choir of Silesian University.
